Today, men around the world are getting ready to ‘put their balls on the line’ and sign up for World Vasectomy Day (WVD) - This year, on November 13, 2015 - WVD is the world's largest male oriented family planning event and the first global vasectomy-athon ever attempted.

“In helping to shoulder responsibility for family planning, men become heroes to their partners, to their families and to our future,” says WVD co-founder Jonathan Stack.

The goal for WVD is to inspire 750 doctors in 25 countries to perform over 3000 vasectomies, while launching a global conversation about the importance of men’s role in family planning. Thousands of men from around the world are volunteering to dedicate their vasectomy to WVD. The events will be live-streamed online to a global audience here.

The event headquarters this year is a beautiful outdoor temple on the outskirts of Gianyar, Bali. As the cameras roll across the globe, live-streamed vasectomies from doctor's surgeries in 20 countries can be viewed from Friday 09:00 Bali time until 11:00 Los Angeles time.

WVD organizers are working with the world’s leading practitioners to provide free, discounted or low-cost, high-quality vasectomies, priced at the discretion of each practitioner. Vasectomy doctors can sign up to participate via the website and choose to dedicate their vasectomies to the cause.

WVD is the culmination of a four-year journey that has taken two-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jonathan Stack to Florida, Haiti, Kenya, the Philippines and Australia, with the world’s leading vasectomist, Dr. Doug Stein - a man on a mission to save the planet... one vasectomy at a time.

The live global vasectomy-a-thin webcast, will include feeds from many participating doctors, interviews with family planning leaders, and live tour of vasectomies being performed around the world.

WVD partners include Marie Stopes International, a London-based nonprofit family planning organization operating in 37 countries.

Currently, about half (51%) of the 6.6 million pregnancies in the United States each year (3.4 million) are unintended. Roughly four in 10 pregnancies worldwide are unintended. The average woman spends about five years pregnant, postpartum or trying to become pregnant, and three decades—more than three-quarters of her reproductive life—trying to avoid an unintended pregnancy.

Dr. Stein, one of the world’s most prolific providers, having completed over 33,000 vasectomy procedures throughout his career, has traveled to Kenya, Haiti and the Philippines on numerous non-profit vasectomy missions. “My inspiration are men like George Mbogah, a 38-year old Kenyan father of two, who scraped together enough money for a 20-hour bus trip for his vasectomy,” Stein says. “George told me, ‘I don’t want my wife to suffer another painful pregnancy, nor my children to suffer the bitter taste of poverty.’ I was inspired to bring this opportunity to others.”

About World Vasectomy Day: The goal of World Vasectomy Day is to heighten awareness of and dispel myths about vasectomy, increase access to the procedure, particularly for the underserved, and to inspire more men to become engaged as equal partners with women in the global family planning conversation. The annual global observance, launched in 2013, is a project of World Vasectomy Day Services, a New York-based organization with nonprofit status pending. It was created by Jonathan Stack, an Emmy Award-winning and two-time Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker, and urologist Doug Stein, M.D., who has performed over 33,000 vasectomies.
