Soul of Wit Films Takes on Veteran Affairs Suicide Epidemic in Film by Award-Winning Independent Filmmakers
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 13, 2015 -- Soul of Wit Films, in a new film beginning production in 2016, tackles the important subject of a 2012 report by the Department of Veterans Affairs which estimated a shocking twenty-two U.S. veterans commit suicide each day. Troubled by the magnitude of this largely unaccounted cost of war, writer/director of The Veteran’s Wife, Giorgio Litt, set out to make a film exploring this ongoing tragedy among our servicemen and women, and how it affects them, their families, and the larger communities around them.
“Unlike many post-war films that get inside the mind of the veteran, our film is told from the perspective of the vet’s wife, Jennifer,” says Litt, who in 2014 wrote and produced the award winning short film Waking Marshall Walker. “That way, The Veteran’s Wife, focuses on how the community around these soldiers returning from war responds to their needs, and their struggles, when they come home.”
The upcoming independent film stars Nikki DeLoach of MTV’s Awkward as Jennifer, who’s PTSD-suffering husband appears on the verge of a breakdown, while their young son mysteriously goes missing from school. As her world crumbles, social institutions such as the police and the veteran affairs system are either inept or indifferent to their problems, and the entire family is on the brink.
The Veteran’s Wife, a Soul of Wit Films production, is raising funds for the budget via Indiegogo (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-veteran-s-wife), with non-profit status verified by Fractured Atlas making all donations tax-deductible. Filming is scheduled for winter 2016, and a premier is planned for early 2017.
