Further enhancing its award-winning patient-centered care philosophy, Griffin Hospital announced today that it has selected Allen Technologies, the leader in interactive patient engagement solutions, to help educate, engage and empower patients using Allen’s E3 Patient Engagement Solutions.

Using tablets provided to patients upon admission, Griffin’s patients will be able to access their medications, lab results, vital signs, daily care plan and other information about their condition and care. In addition, Allen’s E3 solutions will transform the tablet into an interactive portal for requesting an array of hospital services, and accessing the Internet, music and games.

“With the implementation of Allen’s E3 Patient Engagement Solutions, Griffin Hospital is taking patient empowerment to the next level,” said Allen President and CEO Jerry Folsom. “These interactive patient engagement modules, delivered on tablets that patients can use throughout their stay, empower patients to take an active role in their care and their care experience at Griffin.”

The 160-bed nonprofit hospital has served the Derby, Connecticut, community for more than 100 years. In 1992, Griffin Hospital instituted Planetree, an innovative model of healthcare that puts patients' needs first. Its patient-centric approach is recognized worldwide. Today, Griffin Hospital is the flagship of the Planetree network of hundreds of hospitals in the United States, Canada, South America, Japan and the Netherlands. Its patient-centered approach to healthcare has garnered Griffin consistently high patient satisfaction scores.

Once the tablet implementation is completed this fall, the Allen tablet solution will provide Griffin patients with access to their medical care information. In the future, Griffin will be able to add additional interactive tools through which patients can do such things as:

  •     Request housekeeping and maintenance;
  •     View on-screen room service menus and dietary information;
  •     Request spiritual care and patient advocacy services; and
  •     Submit real-time feedback on various aspects of their patient experience.

“Griffin Hospital is looking forward to incorporating input from our staff, physicians, Patient-Family Advisory Committee, and patients themselves as we implement this cutting-edge patient engagement technology from Allen Technologies,” said Todd Liu, the hospital’s vice president for accountable care and general counsel. “We were equally impressed by the system’s capabilities and Allen Technologies’ willingness to work collaboratively with our team to customize their solution to meet our specific needs, and more importantly, the needs of our patients and their caregivers.”
