AALU Women's Engagement Forum a Major Success for Life Insurance Community
Reston, VA (PRWEB) November 11, 2015 -- On November 2-3, the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (http://www.aalu.org), Guardian Life, New York Life, and Northwestern Mutual hosted a Women’s Engagement Forum in Washington, DC. As part of its diversity initiative, AALU’s Board of Directors spent nearly two years working with the three carriers leading up to this high-impact event.
Over 30 women from diverse professional and personal backgrounds traveled from around the U.S. to advocate on behalf of the life insurance community and learn firsthand about the value of grassroots activities and the role of women in politics. Participants also spent time discussing concerns with the pending Department of Labor fiduciary standard with their Representatives and Senators on Capitol Hill.
Representative Diane Black (http://www.black.house.gov) spoke at a reception on November 2, encouraging the female agents to hold their legislators accountable. She also discussed her involvement with efforts to encourage women to run for elected office.
“Women bring a unique perspective and set of life experiences to every situation, whether it is the classroom, the boardroom, or the halls of Congress,” said Congressman Black. “I am encouraged to see how AALU and its partners at the Women’s Engagement Forum have embraced this message and are committed to empowering women with the tools needed to be effective voices for change here on Capitol Hill and in their communities back home.”
Women make up 15% of the industry and 11% of AALU membership (up from 8% in 2011). AALU, Guardian Life, New York Life, and Northwestern Mutual are committed to ensuring that advocates are representative of not only the life insurance community, but the American public.
