K9 In-Vehicle Heat Monitor Ships as First Joint Solution

The temperature inside a vehicle can rise by twenty degrees in just ten minutes and by thirty degrees in twenty minutes

Senaya, Inc., a Boston-based M2M supply chain technology company, flowthings.io, a Brooklyn-based complex event processing and streaming data orchestration platform for IoT, and Blueforce Development Corporation, a Boston-based provider of mobile software for public safety and mission critical markets, today announced a technology partnership and the general availability of their first mobile IoT solution.

The partnership offers highly secure and scalable sensor, cloud, and mobile solutions for the public safety and national security markets.

The partners’ first joint solution is a K9 In-Vehicle Environmental Monitoring System. Every year police and military working dogs die after being left in unattended and overheated vehicles. The temperature inside a vehicle can rise by twenty degrees in just ten minutes and by thirty degrees in twenty minutes.

The K9 In-Vehicle Environmental Monitoring system delivers a high reliability, cost-effective solution for monitoring the temperature inside of police and military K9 transportation vehicles. It makes that information available to handlers, command staff, and dispatch personnel in real-time, increasing transparency and decreasing reaction times. The quick and easy to set up solution consists of a Senaya cellular-enabled sensor that monitors temperature inside the vehicle and communicates that data to the flowthings.io cloud-based event-processing platform in real time. The platform monitors the vehicle 24 hours a day and provides life saving, real-time alerting and notification via Blueforce’s Mobile and Command Center products.

“Heat injuries, including death, can occur when working dogs are left in a confined space, such as a car, for too long. The K9 in-vehicle solution allows you to set thresholds for the warnings and alarms that will trigger the warning system,” says Ken Ballinger, retired Plymouth County Sherriff’s K9 lead and now CEO of Alpha-Canis, a military and working dog training facility in Weymouth, Massachusetts. “Should a handler miss the Blueforce notification, supervisors and dispatchers will be notified (via text, vibration, e-mail, and ring tones) before any rise in temperature becomes a heat emergency.”

“We are really excited by the strength of the solution in solving a very real problem. The K9 In-Vehicle monitoring system was not only brought to market in an incredibly short time frame but, more importantly, by combining three best-in-class solutions it also out-performs and out-scales any solution offered by an individual company,” states Mike Kochanik, Chief Revenue Officer of flowthings.io.

More than just a K-9 temperature and location tracker, this joint solution from Senaya, Blueforce and flowthings.io utilizes a market-ready and field tested sensor, with tens of thousands of devices deployed to date, to bring the power of the Internet of Things (IoT) to the public safety market. It offers the perfect solution for companies seeking automated, accurate and timely information on any non-powered and reusable assets.

“This collaboration clearly demonstrates how building modern IoT solutions is not an insular problem to be worked on by one company. The real winners in IoT are going to be the companies and platforms that can be integrated rapidly to build robust, scalable and valuable solutions,” said Senaya COO and co-founder Jamshed Dubash.

“This is how authentic value is created in IoT markets: Collaboration among subject matter experts to bring to market application-specific total solutions. These companies are offering stable and scalable technologies that are operationally relevant, and affordable,” offered Chris Rezendes, President, INEX Advisors and Founder, IoT IMPACT LABS who works with all three companies.
