CURT Manufacturing Wins Packaging Award at AAPEX
(PRWEB) November 23, 2015 -- CURT Manufacturing, the leading manufacturer of USA-made towing products, received an award at the 2015 AAPEX show for the company’s new hitch lock packaging. The award was won in the economics category of new packaging.
CURT converted over 20 of its hitch locks and coupler locks to a cleaner and more efficient packaging design earlier in 2015. The new design features a thick, black plastic card with a CURT branded logo and product information over the top. The locks are securely fastened to the packaging with industrial twist-ties. CURT also designed color-coded product category labeling, making it easy for retail businesses to organize their planogram layouts in a clean and efficient manner.
The goal of the new packaging was to show more SKUs on the planograms while still saving space. Many of the products affected by the packaging update now take up less than half the space they used to.
Tom Egan, Vice President of Industry Services as the Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, and Sean Riley, Editor of Packaging Machinery Technology magazine, judged the competition. The criteria used in judging the economics category consisted of the package design results in costs savings, demonstrated by any / all of the following: Distribution Improvements, Damage Reduction, Packing/Processing Efficiencies, Machinability, Material Standardization, Labor Costs, Warehouse/Storage Costs and Material Costs. This design addresses the package’s life cycle, as demonstrated by any/all of the following: Reusability, Material Reduction, Improvement Material Strength, Density Improvements and Recyclability. According to Chris Kalousek, Director of Sponsorships and Social Media at AAPEX, “CURT’s packaging, by using a single plastic card with ties affixing the product to the card, demonstrated many cost saving changes from production through warehousing and even shelf display.”
