Practices need a working knowledge of new and revised CPT® codes early on to be ready to use them from January 1, 2016 – There’s no grace period!

Several significant coding-related changes are anticipated to impact Orthopedic practices in 2016. In 2016, expected coding changes are likely to include new codes for spine and hip X-rays, paravertebral facet blocks and in E/M, prolonged service codes. It’s not easy to understand the effects of code changes in musculoskeletal, radiology and nervous system sections on an Orthopedic practice. These coding changes will specifically impact reimbursement and practice operations.

Figuring out how to use these codes in practice to get reimbursement is a tough challenge, especially as there is no grace period for the implementation on these changes. Practices must have a working knowledge of Orthopedic CPT® and NCCI coding changes before they are rolled out and implemented on January 1, 2016. Practices need to learn how these new and revised codes work to ensure accurate reporting of claims.

To help practices get a jump start on implementing coding changes in their practices, AudioEducator is hosting a live Audio Conference presented by noted expert Margie Scalley Vaught, CPC, CPC-H, CPC-I, CCS-P, PCE, MCS-P, ACS-EM, ACS-OR titled “Orthopedic CPT® Updates 2016” on Wed, Dec 2, 2015 at 1 PM ET in which she shall discuss subsection guidelines along with all the comments that CPT® has regarding the appropriate way to use the new and revised CPT® codes for 2016. She will also provide handouts that can be used to bring all the key people in your practice up to speed. Margie will discuss the new codes for imaging of spine, hip and pelvis and how to properly document imaging interpretation and order requirements per CPT® and CMS. She will also discuss the NCCI changes for 2016 as they apply to orthopedics with a review of existing bundling and new prolonged service codes for staff issues. Plus, Margie will discuss the correct reporting of repair vs. reconstruction of the posterolateral corner as per 2016 CPT® manual.
