Lightning Point of Rock and Roll History Auction Saturday
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) December 02, 2015 -- Relics from the 1960's-70s Hippie counter culture movement are heading for the auction block Saturday. The lifetime collection of Jeff Shero Nightbyrd, a legend of the 1960's counter culture movement, will be sold at live public auction Saturday December 5th at Burley Auction Gallery in New Braunfels Texas. After winning Best Columnist in the Southwest at the Daily Texan, in 1964 Jeff helped found the Austin RAG. In 1968 he founded RAT Subterranean News in New York, had a hand in Woodstock, edited the Los Angeles Free Press, and even had a stint running the Plains Georgia Monitor while Jimmy Carter was President. Upon his return home to Austin years later, he started the Austin Sun and even worked as a columnist for both the Austin Chronicle and the Austin American Statesman.
The collection is full of what made Austin the cool, weird place it is today. Authentic Vulcan Gas Company posters from Gilbert Shelton & Jim Franklin, Janis Joplin Avalon Ballroom Posters, Armadillo World Headquarters Posters, as well as original signed Poster Art from Bill Narum, Ken Featherston, Danny Garrett, Sam Yeates, Michael Priest, Gilbert Shelton, Guy Juke, Kery Awn and other Armadillo Art Squad members that Jeff collected over the years. “I loved when the underground Artists would bring weird (As in Keep Austin Weird) creations for my papers. Sometimes they would sign one on the spot. I was lucky to live in a lightning point of rock & roll music, art, & history.” Rare, cool relics & posters from Old Austin, the 1960s & 70s counter culture movement & Austin. Rare Janis Joplin items like Ralph Steadman’s signed famous limited edition nude of Janis Joplin, & a rare handbill for a 1968 Janis Joplin Concert at Hemisfair Park in San Antonio Texas that was cancelled.
An original Woodstock Concert poster & one of a kind personal relics from Woodstock like an official press pass & the only know surviving example of the "Woodstock Survivors Guide" that was printed & distributed by Jeff at the concert. A fine collection of original Peter Max & Andy Warhol posters. Early Punk Frank Kozik’s, a large Pablo Picasso Peace poster, and from his time in California, rare early psychedelic concert posters from the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, many signed San Francisco posters including Moscoso, Mouse & Griffin.
