FinancialJobsWeb.com, the leading employment website for financial careers, reports an increase of 3.8 percent in the number of financial job postings to its site for the month of October 2015 compared to the previous month.
October’s increase in the number of job postings marks a jump from the 0.10 percent decrease reported in September 2015. The employment website’s increase in job postings also aligns with the 0.06% increase in the number of financial jobs gained in October as reported by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday, November 6, 2015.
The Economic Situation report revealed a gain of 5,000 jobs within the financial activities supersector for the month of October, with a gain of 6,000 jobs occurring in the finance and insurance sector, and a loss of 900 jobs within the real estate, rental and leasing sector. The supersector now sits at 8,161,000 jobs with an unemployment rate of 2.4%, a decrease of 1.2% reported in October 2014. Over the past 12 months, the supersector has added 147,000 jobs, with more than half of the reported job gains occurring in the insurance carriers and related activities subsector.
Within the finance and insurance sector, insurance carriers and related activities gained the most for the month at 5,000 jobs, while securities, commodity contracts, investments, and funds and trusts gained 2,100 jobs. Credit intermediation and related activities lost 1,100 jobs.
Losses within the real estate, rental and leasing sector occurred within the rental and leasing services subsector, which lost 6,500 jobs. Conversely, the real estate subsector gained 5,300 jobs last month. Lessors of nonfinancial intangible assets gained 300 jobs, after losing 200 the month earlier.
Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 271,000 jobs while the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5 percent. Over the last 12 months, employment growth has averaged 230,000 jobs per month. In October, job gains occurred in health care, retail trade, food services and drinking places, construction and professional and business services.
