December 3, 2015 (EAST LANSING, Mich.) — Network, voice, and cloud communications service provider Comlink has named John Summersett as its new chief executive officer. Summersett, who has been chief operating officer of Comlink since the company was formed, replaces outgoing CEO Paul Bowman, who plans to retire after a transitional period.
Summersett’s appointment was unanimously approved by the board of Great Lakes Comnet, Comlink’s parent company. The board also approved his plans for the ongoing strategic evolution of Comlink and the company’s fiber network and datacenter facilities.
“John’s vision, entrepreneurialism, and leadership has been driving this company’s growth and innovation since the outset,” Bowman says. “Comlink has evolved into a powerhouse next-generation communications service provider, and no one is better suited than John to guide this company’s technology innovation, market leadership, and success.”
Summersett has more than two decades of experience creating and leading innovative communications companies. As Comlink’s COO, he oversaw the development of more than 6,000 miles of fiber network, established an industry-leading voice operation, led the construction of state-of-the-art datacenters, forged a rapidly expanding cloud service delivery strategy, and built one the nation’s most expansive fiber networks optimized and customized for the healthcare IT industry.
His extensive experience in the telecommunications and networking industry encompasses experience in startup leadership, mergers and restructuring, talent acquisition, and innovative organizational leadership across a broad range of industry environments—regulated, deregulated, wireline, and wireless. Summersett attended the University of Michigan, serves on the Michigan Energy and Technology Committee, and is former Executive Director of Indatel Group and Founding Executive Director of Indatel Services.
“Comlink is a unique entity—our expansive fiber network, combined with our state-of-the-art datacenters, power the kinds of connectivity and applications today’s businesses require to be efficient, innovative, and competitive,” Summersett says. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to drive an organization with such vast potential into the next generation of communications technology and service delivery.”
Summersett will guide the ongoing expansion and enhancement of Comlink and oversee the company’s leadership team, which comprises veterans with extensive experience in all aspects of telecommunications and IT technology and management.
“The expertise, knowledge, and dedication of our entire team is what makes Comlink great,” Summersett says. “With literally hundreds of years of combined technology knowledge and leadership experience in our ranks, Comlink couldn’t be better equipped to win.”
