Watson celebrates Veterans Day by remembering 14 veterans at Harkness House
West Haven, CT (PRWEB) December 08, 2015 -- Watson Inc. prepared for Veterans Day this year by signing 14 greeting cards. The cards had a patriotic theme and “Thank you for your service” printed on the front. They were circulated among Watson’s departments and signed over a two week period of time. Employees wrote messages to the veterans as well as signing them. Watson provided 14 Visa gift cards in the amount of $50 each which were enclosed in the Veterans Day cards. Also provided were 14 boxes of chocolates.
Harkness House is part of the transitional housing program at Columbus House. Located in New Haven, the Harkness House program provides housing and support for 14 homeless male veterans. Transitional housing provides short-term housing and services for up to 24 months. Columbus House program goals are to provide stable housing, increase access and connection to services, expand social and employment skills, grow self-determination, and encourage community connections.
Delivering the gifts to Harkness House on Monday, November 9th were (from left to right) Joanna Meeker, Blake Powers, Charles Mackenzie, and Moira Watson. Also to the far right is Bill Augustine, Case Manager at Harkness House.
“We wanted to reach out to the veterans at Harkness House and let them know that we have not forgotten the sacrifices they have made in service for our country. We wanted them to know that the whole team at Watson was thinking about them on Veterans Day,” said Moira Watson, Vice President of Marketing and Communication at Watson. “We had so many employees participate in this project. The cards were circulated and signed by so many of our team members; it really made an impression to see all the names and words of thanks and encouragement on those cards. We also had the opportunity to bring additional team members with us to deliver the cards and chocolate. This allows more of our team to see the impact we can all have on the community. They come back to the office with new ideas on additional things we can do to help next year.”
Watson has a comprehensive community service program and is involved in local charities such as Columbus House and the Connecticut Food Bank as well as national charities and service organizations. To learn more about the community service programs at Watson, please see their news page.
