Access’s Paperless Electronic Forms and Patient Signatures Solution Helps Uvalde Memorial Hospital Simplify Registration
Sulphur Springs, Texas (PRWEB) December 10, 2015 -- Access today announced that Uvalde Memorial Hospital (UMH) has improved its management of forms and patient signatures with the company's paperless electronic forms and e-signatures solution.
“We needed a better way to generate forms, obtain patient signatures and get both into the chart,” said Susan Iturbe, systems analyst at UMH. “Access has proved they can meet these needs. Their solutions save us time, money and paper and integrate well with MEDITECH’s EHR.”
Previously, a registrar printed a forms packet comprised of 10 to 15 pages and handed them to the patient. Once he or she had reviewed and signed each one, they gave them back to the registrar. The forms were then scanned into the electronic health record (EHR).
Now, the registrar explains to the patient what’s on the forms and collects secure electronic signatures. The Access system sends the authorized e-forms directly into the patient’s electronic chart in the MEDITECH 6.x EHR.
“Before, registration was a lengthy, paper-intensive process,” said Susan Iturbe, systems analyst at UMH. “With the Access system it’s much quicker, and our staff can focus more on patients’ needs. It has also removed guesswork about which forms go with which patient types, as the forms packets are assembled automatically.”
The Access solution is also having a big impact on other forms-centric processes. UMH used to manually process physical therapy consents, but this workflow has been transformed.
“We’ve gone completely paperless with our physical therapy consents thanks to Access’s e-forms and electronic patient signatures solution,” Iturbe said. “They’ve automated several processes and forms are no longer tied to patients’ physical location.”
Before deploying the Access system, UMH staff printed out labels with patient data to stick on consents and other forms. These were expensive and there was the possibility of applying the wrong label to a form. With the Access solution, patient information is automatically applied to the forms and a unique barcode specific to each patient’s visit that ensures completed forms are archived correctly in the EHR.
“The Access solution has eliminated the chance of human error and made us feel more confident from a compliance standpoint,” Iturbe said. “It is also saving money by reducing manual tasks and the cost of labels.”
To ensure they got up and running quickly with their e-forms and electronic patient signatures project, several members of UMH’s IT/IS team participated in Access University online training courses.
“We found that Access University empowered us to take ownership of our e-forms system and we liked how detail-oriented the training was,” Iturbe said.
