The NoviSwitch 2116 extends NoviFlow’s NoviSwitch line by proving the same rich OpenFlow feature-set and extensive SDN capabilities as our higher density switches, but at a price-point better suited for entry and mid-level deployments.

NoviFlow Inc., a leading provider of high-performance OpenFlow-based switching solutions, today announced the NoviSwitch 2116. The new switch extends NoviFlow’s line of feature-rich OpenFlow data plane solutions to include a 16 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet port configuration, ideal for entry and mid-level deployments of Software Defined Networking (SDN). The NoviSwitch 2116 implements OpenFlow 1.3/1.4 on the EZchip NP-5 network processor, offering a total throughput of up to 160 Gbps (160 Gbps in and 160 Gbps out), up to 15,600 flow-entries in TCAM, and up to 3 million exact-match flow entries in DRAM. NoviSwitch 2116 also features a powerful Intel Core i5-4402E dual-core 1.6GHz host CPU with the processing capacity to deliver up to 3,200 flow-mods/second.

According to Dominique Jodoin, President and CEO of NoviFlow: “The NoviSwitch 2116 extends NoviFlow’s NoviSwitch line by providing the same rich OpenFlow feature-set and extensive SDN capabilities as our higher density switches, but at a price-point better suited for entry and mid-level deployments, and SDN applications that do not require very large wildcard based flow handling capabilities.”

The NoviSwitch 2116, which features the NoviWare 300 switching software, is the newest member of NoviFlow’s high-performance OpenFlow switch line. It provides the industry’s broadest support of the OpenFlow 1.3 specification, including all actions, instructions and match fields, and key OpenFlow 1.4 features. It also delivers the capabilities and performance needed by intensive, leading-edge Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) applications. The NoviSwitch 2116’s advanced features include:

  • VxLAN/L2GRE/L2MPLS Encapsulation/Decapsulation
  • Tunnel Metadata for GRE, MPLS and VxLAN
  • Matching on Logical Port
  • BFD Link Monitoring

Adds Jodoin: “Just like our higher-performance switches, the NoviSwitch 2116 provides a flexible and agile environment that can support multiple SDN applications, and its NoviWare software can be field-upgraded to support new releases of the OpenFlow protocol as well as new features and functionalities as these become available.”

The NoviSwitch 2116 is available for ordering now, and will be shipping starting in the first quarter of 2016.
