The Bassiouni Group Successfully Completes Major Governance Project with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Ethiopia
New York, New York (PRWEB) December 16, 2015 -- The Bassiouni Group (http://www.bassiounigroup.com), a leading Global Development firm specializing in Advisory, Trade & Investment solutions for emerging/frontier markets, today announced that it has successfully completed a major Governance project with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of the People’s Republic of Ethiopia, focused on innovative solutions in the delivery of basic services throughout Ethiopia. Funded by the World Bank, the project was coordinated and implemented in collaboration with two U.K.-based strategic partners: ACTS Consultancy/ACTS (http://www.acts-consultancy.com/) and Health Partners International/HPI (http://healthpartners-int.co.uk/).
The project, which was initiated in May 2014, entailed identifying innovative approaches to promote national capacity, management, social participation, gender mainstreaming, local budget planning, and monitoring and evaluation for quality and efficient basic service delivery particularly at the decentralized level, while concurrently ensuring sustainability. The TBG-ACTS-HPI team encompassed 10 technical experts representing United States of America, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Malawi, Nigeria, Kenya and India. Furthermore, the joint team represented competency in Governance, Infrastructure, Statistics, Socio-Economics, Health, Education, Agriculture, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Rural Roads. The African Development Bank’s mission is to spur sustainable economic development and social progress in regional member country and the project was a direct reflection of that mission.
“To complete such an important project that will have a direct impact on the people of Ethiopia, is a major accomplishment for TBG,” said Dr. David Bassiouni, CEO and Chairman of The Bassiouni Group who also previously served as UNICEF Representative to the country in 2003. “This is an unprecedented project for the Government of Ethiopia, as it showcases the innovative nature of Ethiopia’s decentralized local governance system, which has become one of the best models in Africa. As a Global Development firm, TBG is committed to development efforts in Ethiopia and the Horn as a key region in Africa to which the firm will continue to provide a range of Advisory, Trade and Investment solutions and services.”
As part of the project, the joint TBG-ACTS-HPI team completed the following:
• Provided an overview of innovative approaches to delivery of basic services (primarily in education, health, agriculture, water and sanitation and rural roads) and trends and recent service improvements;
• Analyzed the performance of delivery of decentralized services and taking stock of existing bottlenecks, innovations and opportunities;
• Assessed and examining how/what innovative approaches in decentralized delivery of basic social services can be strengthened and deepened;
• Diagnosed innovative schemes in service delivery that could create jobs for the youth;
• Recommended detailed actions and necessary policies to promote innovation in the delivery of decentralized basic services.
The entire project was coordinated in conjunction with TBG’s Technical Team, which is mobilized to support every project through country intelligence, dedicated research and analysis as well as quality control and assurance including the processing and editing of the reports. As a partner to consultant teams throughout the duration of every project, the Technical Team ensures optimal outcomes in line with The Bassiouni Group’s quality standards.
