In a market often overrun by hard sales tactics and pushy promotions, one company decided to put the customer’s needs and questions first. Quality Window & Door’s educational approach to selling and installing windows in homes throughout the DC, MD, and VA area for the last 26 years recently landed the company as Window & Door magazine’s Dealer of the Year.
Window & Door Magazine awards Dealer of the Year awards each year in its October/November issue. The earn the award, Quality Window & Door created a series of educational e-books on Energy Efficiency in Windows and Window Warranties (with more in the works on Window Materials, Brand Features, and more). They also created a window buying checklist that any consumer could download to help with their research phase. The build-out of helpful resources didn’t stop there—the company currently has over 100 blog posts on topics ranging from Window Trends and Low-E Glass Benefits to an Overview of Impact Resistant Windows and the Best Energy Efficient Doors. These guides and resources are all found on the website, free to homeowners whether they purchase through Quality Window & Door or not.
This approach was born when founder Bob Neidig started the company in 1989—after he went through a typical, hard sales window buying process himself and didn’t feel like he had enough information before making a purchasing decision. “When starting Quality Window & Door, we wanted to change the way window buying was done and put the customer, not a hard sales strategy, first,” says general manager Nick Neidig.
“That educational approach is something we embrace to this day in how we run our company,” continues Neidig. “To truly inform the homeowner of the best window products that meet their needs, design ideas, and budget—not just a sales quota—is what makes me proud to run this company.”
By teaching the consumer about windows (and how to understand their warranties, energy efficiency, choice of materials, and more), they can be more confident and more educated when they actually go to replace their windows through a local contractor.
