Leading peer-to-peer disease management company PeerWell appointed Mike Ryan as Head of Strategic Partnerships. Prior to joining PeerWell, Mike served as CEO within the largest health systems in the US including Ascension Health, HealthTrust and HCA.
Mike is a board member of the Bay Area American Heart Association, California Association of Healthcare Leaders, American Red Cross of Louisiana (Chairman), United Way of America and Better Business Bureau. He was a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and served on the National Board of Regents, the Editorial Board and the California Association of Healthcare Leaders.
He has served as a founder, advisor, investor, board member or CEO of 60 companies including TransCare, Salorix, Proteolix, Calithera Biosciences, HealthOnline and healthcare.com.
“It took a special company for me to consider joining a start up,” said Ryan. “What this team has been able to accomplish in terms of technology, traction and cost reduction is remarkable. PeerWell is using the most under-leveraged asset in health care today- the patient. By using patients to help each other manage disease, PeerWell is uniquely positioned to deliver better outcomes at dramatically lower costs. The health system needs this.”
PeerWell made headlines in 2015 with its peer-to-peer mental health program. Ryan joins PeerWell as the company prepares to launch four new pilots starting Q1 of 2016.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Mike onboard,” said Manish Shah, founder and CEO of PeerWell. “He’s been at the forefront of healthcare technology for the length of his 25+ year career. Having Mike join PeerWell at this stage will be key to us delivering on our goal to make chronic disease care more accessible and effective for people worldwide.”
