42 Broad Street West Breaks Ground Today in Mount Vernon, NY
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 29, 2015 -- International design and architecture firm Perkins Eastman is proud to celebrate today’s groundbreaking of 42 Broad Street West (42 Broad), the new 16-story luxury residential and commercial development in the heart of Mount Vernon’s downtown Fleetwood business district. Located on the corner of Broad Street W and Fleetwood Avenue, the new building will feature 16,000 sf of storefront retail space, 205,000 sf of residential space (249 apartments), and amenities including a new courtyard with pool on the second floor, private terraces, and a landscaped roof. 42 Broad is Mount Vernon’s first planned luxury development to be erected in over four decades, and will enable the community to further capitalize on its transition into a pedestrian-friendly city of regional commerce.
According to Perkins Eastman Principal Stuart Lachs, the development’s design lead, “42 Broad is bringing to Mount Vernon more than just new luxury rental apartments and storefronts; the entire development is designed to improve the surrounding commercial district by supporting safer streets, a better pedestrian experience, and vibrant retail opportunities that support the community. It’s something special when an apartment building can achieve this and more.”
The site for the new mixed-use development is surrounded on three sides by one of Mount Vernon’s growing commercial districts. The building’s design leverages this growth by stepping back from the main intersection of Broad and Fleetwood, establishing an ample plaza for greater pedestrian usage and increased business opportunities.
With a façade that combines limestone, brick, glass, and metal accents, 42 Broad’s design evokes Mount Vernon’s industrial character while also providing a new gateway for the city. Located just minutes from the Fleetwood Metro North train station, 42 Broad is promoting a safe and walkable community in an otherwise car-congested Westchester County.
Today’s afternoon groundbreaking ceremony and holiday reception is being attended by Stuart Lachs AIA, LEED AP, Mark Alexander of Alexander Development Group, and hundreds of others comprising Mount Vernon elected officials, business leaders, clergy, non-profits and area residents from Westchester and New York Counties.
