With its Liquid Movement and Energetic Fusion of Rich Israeli and Arabic Folk Dance, Dabke is set to delight a Gordon Center crowd Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 8:00 p.m., the Gordon Center for Performing Arts presents ZviDance, of New York, showcasing Artistic Director Zvi Gotheiner’s stunning new work -- Dabke.

Mr. Gotheiner’s Dabke uses the power of dance to put a spotlight on Middle-Eastern tribal and national identities while at the same time dissolving those definitions.

“Dabke,” in Arabic, means “stomping of feet;” the word, in Hebrew, is “debka.”

Enlightening and amazing audiences with its liquid movement and energetic fusion of rich Israeli and Arabic folk dance, Dabke was inspired by the Israeli-born Gotheiner’s childhood on a kibbutz. His work tells the story of community in a modern age and the deeply rooted impulses that prompt people to dance.

In its last 20 years, ZviDance has received critical praise and stable funding for its artistic projects. The company performs frequently at home in such New York venues as the Joyce Theater and Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors. It has toured across North America to The American Dance Festival, and abroad to Germany, Poland, Russia, Israel, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Japan.

“This is going to be a rich, cultural evening, full of mesmerizing dance, energy and passion,” says Randi Benesch, Managing Director of the Gordon Center for Performing Arts. “Zvi and his dance company are extraordinarily talented -- the fluidity of their movement will be like nothing you have ever seen before, unless, of course, you want a sneak peak:”
