Groking Lab Launches Kickstarter for Ozmo Smart Cup Manufacturing; Campaign also Supports the Water Collective in its Non-Profit Clean Water Initiative for Africa
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) October 07, 2015 -- Groking Lab, a tech startup focused on providing people with fun, easy-to-use interactive tools and apps for better living, today announced a Kickstarter campaign in preparation for the full launch of its Ozmo Smart Cup and App.
The Ozmo Kickstarter aims to raise $25,000 to support the company’s manufacturing and delivery plans to the U.S. market this fall. A portion of the proceeds will also go to the Water Collective, a non-profit organization that assists in providing clean water to underserved people across the globe.
The Ozmo system is a smart cup and app that work together to track one’s daily water and coffee drinking. Ozmo provides simple prompts to encourage action for meeting a user’s personal daily goals for hydration and avoiding excessive caffeine.
The product was envisioned after the company’s CEO, who has led industrial design studios in Hong Kong for the past six years, noted real-life examples of people around her who were suffering from chronic dehydration. CEO Serena Pau said that Ozmo’s mission is not just to make money but to genuinely contribute to the well-being of society.
“Initially our target market for the Ozmo cup included the early adopters, those very much into ‘wearables’ who prefer a data-driven lifestyle,” Pau added. “But we are finding that this is appealing to a much wider audience than we had anticipated – busy moms, life coaches, baby boomers caring for aging parents, industries whose workers are labor-intensive and outdoors, and more. We are excited about bringing the Ozmo cup first to the health-conscious U.S. market.”
Ozmo Kickstarter supporters who pledge $60 or more will be rewarded with the “Ozmo Active” Early Bird Special and get their cup before the 2015 winter holidays (only 200 cups available at this level). Ozmo’s partnership with the Water Collective gives Kickstarter fans the chance to support this New York-based non-profit with a pledge of $65 or more. The Water Collective, which collaborates with African communities for water independence and clean water initiatives, will receive $25 of every cup sold at this level; supporters will receive an exclusive “Ozmo Active” bearing the Water Collective logo. A full list of the Kickstarter Rewards are at this link: Ozmo Kickstarter Rewards.
If the Kickstarter raises more than $50,000, the company will start the “Ozmo Java+” tooling. The Ozmo Java+ has a built-in heater that keeps one’s coffee at the optimal temperature while also tracking consumption. The original Ozmo Smart Cup “Ozmo Active” is anticipated to be available for consumer purchase in November 2015, worldwide shipping.
Ozmo’s market research found that persistent dehydration and excessive caffeine causes both short- and long-term health problems for many. Athletes, those who labor outdoors, who are medicated, elderly or very young are particularly prone to inadequate hydration. But even the sedentary and office workers are affected too. Statistics show that up to 75% of North Americans are chronically dehydrated, and that 1 in 11 Americans suffer from kidney stones related to lack of liquids. Dehydration also affects coordination, concentration, brain function, and digestive systems.
The leak-proof Ozmo Smart Cup, which holds 16 ounces of liquid, tracks both water and coffee and syncs wirelessly with fitness devices. The cup will run up to four weeks on a single charge (USB), and it’s made from Tritan Plastic (BPA free). The informative and interactive app allows users to customize the information to their own body specs, activity and goals. The free Ozmo App also works without the cup, and is available in the Apple App Store.
ABOUT GROKING LAB
Groking Lab, a tech startup based in Hong Kong, is a spinoff of kitchen product manufacturer Wings Trading (HK) Limited. Its first product developed is the Ozmo Smart Cup and App that can synchronize or work separately to help people achieve their wellness goals. Built to record coffee and water consumption, both the cup and app can track progress – enabling one to achieve daily hydration and caffeine goals. Ozmo reminds users to drink before they even get dehydrated. Personalized reports provide an accurate picture of hydration habits and caffeine intake. Ozmo also aims to tackle the problem of excessive waste by being reusable – more than 35 billion plastic water bottles, along with more than 14 billion paper coffee cups are thrown away every year in the US alone.
