Ashworth College has introduced online Event Planning Courses to its roster of career-based education programs.

Event planners organize and manage professional meetings, conferences, trade shows, receptions, special occasions, and other events. Ashworth’s program, which was designed by industry experts, provides instruction on the structure of popular life, social, and corporate events. Students learn the techniques used to design and execute events based on client needs. They also learn the business and self-employment skills necessary to operate an event-planning business. Graduates receive a career diploma upon successful completion of the program.

“Event planning does not require a degree, but event planners can benefit from specialized knowledge to enter the field. And our program is intended to provide that knowledge,” said Rob Klapper, President of Ashworth College. “Our online program makes it easy for anyone to gain that knowledge because all study is completed at home on the student’s own schedule.”

“We’re especially proud that the content for this program was developed exclusively for Ashworth College by a professional and experienced event planner,” Klapper added. “Students will benefit from engaging with learning material that’s current and relevant. It’s also crafted to meet the specific needs of the adult learner in a distance education environment.”

Klapper cited U.S. Department of Labor statistics that predict a 33% increase in employment opportunities for event planners through 2022. “These statistics suggest that this career has a solid future,” Klapper said, “making now a perfect time to prepare,” Klapper said.

Joyce Smith, faculty consultant and primary author of the program, is a professional event planner with over 20 years of experience in the field. She believes the program provides the valuable tools needed for success. “We designed this program to provide the basic skills students need to begin their careers,” Smith said. “This is the first step in a learning process that will eventually lead to designing and staging events of all styles and sizes and servicing a wide range of clients.”
