Bryce Resort is nestled in the Allegheny mountains. A small very family friendly resort, the curvy mountain drive back off of Interstate 81 is well worth it because you find yourself truly in the mountains. Visitors are welcomed not just by the resort by by the small community of Basye.
A small village consisting of a gas station, post office, and community store with around 800 residents, Basye first welcome visitors in 1904. Coming out on the train to Mt. Jackson, Virginia and then taking a horse and wagon to the village where there was a hotel. Then in the early 60’s, Pete Bryce began the development of what is now Bryce Resort selling membership shares to a golf course and ski resort.
“Bryce ski resort was the first resort in the United States to make snow. “ said Nan Ducklow, membership services director at Bryce Resort. “Bryce began the 50th anniversary with New Year's Eve 2014 and will continue throwing a party through the end of ski season 2016, our plan is to do 50 events to celebrate our 50 years. Some events may be small, some will be large, some may be old favorites and many will be brand new, some may celebrate our great membership but most will be open to everyone!”
"Bryce Resort is Outdoor Adventure." There are many activities for all ages making Bryce the perfect multi-generational travel destinations. Bryce’s has a Par 71, PGA championship golf course. For a higher adventure experience, one can try the high-flying zip line adventure or the relaxing activities Lake Laura beach from paddleboat to canoeing to relaxing under the shade of the trees. Enjoy a 3-mile nature/hiking trail with scenic views around Lake Laura. Bryce is the only resort in North America to offer grass skiing and mountain boarding. You will quickly find that there is more than enough at Bryce to fill up your vacation schedule.
The newest addition, is Bryce Mountain Bike Park brings a whole new level of excitement to the event. Again as with their skiing kinder school, there is an excellent training center for beginners but the trails also offer peak adventure for the professional. The mountain bike park offers the only life-accessed Mountain Biking in Virginia. Partnering with Gravity Logic out of Whistler, British Columbia and Trek bicycles, Bryce Resort has built a summertime experience to get everyone outdoors and to get the adrenaline flowing.
An all season resort, Bryce offers a winter skiing experience from mid- December to the end of March depending on the weather. There are eight unique trails, five lifts, top rated ski and snowboard school and a fantastic racing programs.
One of the favorite events at Bryce is the July 4th celebration. This year Bryce Fest is celebrating its 16th anniversary. All of Bryce’s summer activities will be open. However, the zip line canopy needs to have a reservation and will sell out availability for that day.
Bryce Fest features all of the food, fun and fireworks of years past and is providing some exciting new activities for the whole family to enjoy! Wes Iseli, magician extraordinaire will be performing an even larger show featuring all new spectacular tricks that will delight people of all ages. Shows start at 11AM, 1PM and 3PM! The evening will showcase entertainment beginning at 7 pm on the ski slope side with the Robbie Limon Band and the fireworks will begin at 9:30PM.
