Janie Belaire remembers the hard times when she was “Out of Sane Falling Out of Life” (published by Xlibris) and in her new book, she recounts her experiences, the absolute lows she endured. With her recollection, she shows readers the pitfalls of life so that they can avoid stumbling into them and entering a world of anguish.
“Why do they call it “insane”? ‘Out of sane’ is better,” Belaire says, describing the process of losing all of the sanity that is supposed to get a person through life. She remembers how she found herself falling out of life, the twists and turns, 14 operations leaving her with chronic pain after the surgeries and permanently disabled with complete loss of independence. She describes two soul-stealing marriages all leading to deterioration and a world of emotional agony, alcohol, drugs and pills. She walked hand-in-hand with mental illness, drowned in hate and anger, the sadness of what used to be. This is a frank and upfront remembrance of those times, laced with humor, raw honesty and poetic strength – the story of a survivor, a wounded soldier of the war that is life, instilling courage to those with similar experiences, those broken by hardships who know and have handled real pain.
Belaire’s testament is accompanied with contributions by other writers, survivors who chronicle their experiences enduring similarly harrowing ordeals. The poetic contributions of Sophie Gail – a 14-year-old who was diagnosed with clinical depression when she was 12 - highlight the relevance of societal issues and topics like depression that arises very early in life and its potential long-term impacts on those affected and the people around them. Belaire explains that this shows how “the scope of depression can start, and has been starting, more often than not, early on (Sophie as the example) which often lead to future ramifications (me as the example).”
“I hope this helps others out there not to fall out of life as I did. Or at least, know there is someone out there who feels your pain of depression,” Belaire says.
