A deeply moving story of ordinary people caught up in extraordinary times and a true testament of the unwavering human spirit
FORT MYERS, Fla. (PRWEB) January 07, 2015
Ray Stoner debuts in the literary world with “Road to Roma” (published by Xlibris). This new novel is inspired by stories of the Great Depression and the Second World War which the first-time author heard as a child. He masterfully crafts, out of these tragic episodes, a powerful tale of family and the indomitable human spirit.
“The Road to Roma” follows the redemptive journey of men and women who lived in the midst of the poverty and strife of the Great Depression and the turmoil of the Second World War. This debut novel is unique not just for its intimate portrayal of the harsh realities and the extraordinary courage present in those times but also for the author’s remarkable fighting spirit.
In 2005, Stoner suffered a massive stroke which left him paralyzed on the left side of his body. Using only his right hand and with sizable brain damage, Stoner spent five years writing “The Road to Roma.” Although his short-term memory is pretty much gone, his long-term memory survived the stroke and let him recall the stories his father told him.
Evocative, unforgettable and thoroughly engrossing, “The Road to Roma” is a deeply moving story of ordinary people caught up in extraordinary times and a true testament of the unwavering human spirit.
