When Aubrey Morris retired, he decided to research the Morris family tree. His son, Roger, had been very interested in the family history since he was a child and they both collected information about the family tree. When they gathered much historical information, they realized that it could produce a good Christian novel, so they went and wrote “When a Sparrow Falls” (published by Xlibris).

An excerpt from the book reads:
“I appreciate your advice, Uncle Ben, but I’ve made up my mind,” young Spence responded quietly. He had already decided that God, if He exists at all, was a cruel and vengeful God. He shrugged, sighed, and went on, his voice low and hoarse now. “That yellow fever epidemic in fifty-five took Papa, and now that Mother’s gone, I’m . . . well, I’m not sure I believe anymore.”

Set in the Civil War, “When a Sparrow Falls” follows the story of David Spence, a seminary student who lost his faith and dropped out of divinity school after the loss of his mother. He would later serve in the civil war under the command of the legendary General Stonewall Jackson. Spence encounters a moment of truth in the heat of battle.

“When a Sparrow Falls” tells the story of a man who loses faith in God but goes through an experience that regains that faith. It guides the reader through a journey of faith during the Civil War, portraying the horrors endured by soldier and family alike. The authors hope that this would help their readers realize that while their faith is tested many times, God will always be there to help and guide them through the difficult times, leading them to victory.
