Healthcare organizations estimate that implementing a connected ecosystem will potentially generate $850 million to $1 billion in annual savings—primarily through increased clinical productivity and reductions in patient transfers. To help these enterprises, WSO2 has published a new white paper on implementing an architecture for transforming the disparate systems and devices used in healthcare institutions today into a cohesive, connected ecosystem.
The white paper, “Connected Health Reference Architecture,” was developed by WSO2 Solutions Architect Nuwan Bandara. He begins by reviewing how a connected healthcare ecosystem can enable healthcare organizations to decrease the latencies in connected services, ensure the high availability of medical information, and gain intelligence via information sharing. Nuwan then explains the challenge of seamlessly bringing together the key drivers of a healthcare system, such as the government, citizens, healthcare institutions, insurance organizations and research groups, given the different functions handled by each of these entities.
Next, Nuwan presents a reference architecture for implementing a connected healthcare ecosystem. Additionally, he explores the technology requirements for this architecture, such as interoperability, data storage and transformation, data accessibility and integrity, and complex health event processing (CEP). He then concludes by explaining how products within the comprehensive, modular, and open source WSO2 enterprise middleware platform can be used to implement the architecture.
