The Refinery is an incredible architectural and design achievement and has created the perfect setting for my work. Like The Refinery, I hope Into the Light will create conversation, reflection and pleasure

Located in a new £75 million luxury office and leisure development in Edinburgh’s St Andrew Square, The Refinery restaurant will be Drake and Morgan’s tenth opening and its first foray outside London. The restaurant group has enjoyed extraordinary success since its foundation in 2008, earning a reputation for serving creative food and innovative cocktails in unique surroundings. Described as ‘lovingly crafted’, every Drake & Morgan venue is individual and relies on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients for its menus.

Opening in November 2016, The Refinery Edinburgh is described as a ‘Scandinavian-inspired designer’s dream’, combining industrial sophistication with Scottish comforts. It is here that Simon Isaac’s latest works will feature, fresh from his most recent exhibition at the world-famous San Francisco Open Studios.

An exploration over 30 years, Into the Light portrays visions of an apocalyptic future created by mans’ own hand. Photographed predominantly on location in Chernobyl, Paris, Berlin and Pripyat, Ukraine, Simon Isaac’s latest work shows the potential devastation of nuclear power on humanity. Each image captures dereliction and abandonment and life after disaster whilst highlighting the power of nature to adapt and survive in extreme circumstances when man is removed from the equation.

Speaking of the installation, Simon comments: “As well as their incredible success in hospitality, Drake & Morgan are known for their stunning venues and their support of the arts, with gallery space in many of their sites. The Refinery is an incredible architectural and design achievement and has created the perfect setting for my work. Like The Refinery, I hope Into the Light will create conversation, reflection and pleasure.”

Editor’s notes:
Simon Isaac is a photographer based in Essex, England. With a strong emphasis on candid and street photography, he has captured moments in time and history all over the world. His approach is to capture the ordinary, forgotten and alternative aspects of life creating a portfolio of work representing an often unorthodox view of the world and society. In his current exhibition, Into the Light, are images of a post nuclear future brought to life from Chernobyl, Ukraine, Paris, Berlin and London.
