Memorial Healthcare System Opens Memorial Joint Replacement Center With Total Care, Compassionate Approach
Pembroke Pines, FL (PRWEB) December 31, 2015 -- Joint injuries continue to rise among individuals of all ages, as are the number of patients reporting mild to severe joint pain. These individuals struggle with limited range of motion every day keeping them from enjoying the most basic of daily activities.
The new Memorial Joint Replacement Center has opened its doors as a comprehensive center of excellence with the goal of revolutionizing how patients get back on their feet, with full range of motion, and reduced anxiety.
The specialized center is located at Memorial Hospital West campus at 703 N. Flamingo Road in Pembroke Pines.
“We've established a center that goes beyond the standard paradigm of care found at most medical centers and hospitals,” said Teri More, Director, Orthopedic-Joint Replacement Services at Memorial Hospital West.
“It offers a patient- and family- centered care approach in an exclusive, dedicated unit where patients undergo group therapy sessions focused on early mobilization. We preface this with a solid pre-operative education program that helps patients understand what to expect during their hospital stay and how to prepare their homes to support a speedy recovery. Well-informed patients experience less anxiety and have better outcomes.”
Designed as an exclusive, dedicated nursing unit for patients needing total hip replacements and partial and total knee replacements, the center also treats conditions such as arthritis and osteoarthritis of the knee and hip. The ultimate program goals are to expedite recovery, reduce anxiety by substantially reducing length of stay at the facility, and provide an inclusive process with family present at time of treatment and therapies so that patients can get back to the activities they enjoy. A multi-disciplinary team of expertly-trained physical therapists, specially trained nurses, and support staff, is led by medical directors Carl Eierle, MD, a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon who led one of the busiest joint replacement programs at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Daniel Sheldon, MD, who has extensive experience in orthopedic evaluation.
The Center also provides a variety of diagnostic tests and imaging services to diagnose patients with debilitating joint condition or serious orthopaedic injuries. Such tests include arthrograms, bone densitometry tests, bone scans, computed tomography scans (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and x-rays.
The Center also provides additional comprehensive treatment for the following joint diseases and conditions: avascular necrosis (osteonecrosis), gouty arthritis, hip arthritis, hip impingement, hip labral tear, inflammatory arthritis, knee arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and shoulder arthritis.
