Silicon Turnkey Solutions (STS), a Micross Company, is proud to be a supplier to Lockheed Martin Corporation for the USAF Space Fence Program. STS is supplying a critical Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit (RFIC) device used in the ground base S band Radar.
STS, in collaboration with Lockheed Martin Space Fence Program team, manages a complete supply chain from wafer fabrication to the final qualified production custom RFIC delivery. After initial design validation and GDSII file release by Lockheed Martin RFIC design team, STS performs all the tasks of design characterization, procurement, manufacturing, test and qualification, as well as extensive reliability testing and analysis to deliver highly reliable production RFIC devices to the program. The successful qualification and performance of this RFIC is a key enabler to the low cost and high reliability Space Fence System.
“This RFIC is a core element of the Space Fence design,” says Madho Dhouni, Vice President for the Advanced Projects Group at STS. “We worked closely with Lockheed Martin to ensure the package design, processes, materials / piece parts used in manufacturing, assembly, testing and qualification exactly meets the requirements for the operational performance and environment. It’s what we do.”
Zef Malik, GM of STS, adds, “We excel at manufacturing products that meet the explicit needs of each individual application. Our design, assembly, and test equipment are capable of the best precision and our methodology and talent are top notch. This tradition of excellence has earned STS the privilege of working on many exciting new developments and technologies and we are pleased to be a close partner to Lockheed Martin on Space Fence.”
Space Fence will use S-band ground based radars to provide the Air Force with uncued detection, tracking and accurate measurement of space objects, primarily in low-earth orbit and will significantly improve the timeliness with which operators can detect space events which could present potential threats to GPS satellites or the International Space Station.
“Our partnership with STS has resulted in a fully qualified RFIC now being produced in large quantity for Space Fence,” says Bruce Schafhauser, Lockheed Martin’s Space Fence Program Director.
