RCN Expands TV Everywhere Offering with Premier Spanish-Language Programming, Adding the Univision, UniMás and Galavisión Networks
Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) January 07, 2016 -- RCN, an industry-leading provider of high-speed Internet, digital TV and phone services, announces that RCN digital TV subscribers now have access to the Univision, UniMás and Galavisión networks anywhere, anytime, on their PC and mobile devices. This expanded offering provides viewers with the ability to enjoy exclusive TV shows from these Spanish-speaking networks across all of RCN’s markets, including Boston, Chicago, Lehigh Valley (PA), New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. More than one thousand hours of streaming video will be available at all times, as will live streaming of Univision Network 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Customers are able to watch hit shows, along with episodes of blockbuster and classic telenovelas by authenticating with their RCN credentials on UVideos.com and via the UVideos app for iOS and Android devices. All content is in Spanish or subtitled in English and available across any device. Viewers can also connect to, comment on and share videos in real time via Facebook and Twitter.
Research from Nielsen, a global provider of information and insights on what consumers watch and buy, determined that more than a third of Spanish-speaking U.S. Hispanic consumers identify the ability to consume content on multiple devices as among the most important factors when considering a digital video provider. The study also found that more than 60 percent of Spanish-speaking U.S. Hispanic consumers surveyed said they were likely to share clips with friends online and desired more Spanish-language digital video content. These findings coupled with Univision Communications strategy of making their content available anywhere, anytime and across platforms, reinforced RCN’s decision to add the Univision, UniMás and Galavisión networks to its lineup.
“The Univision, UniMás and Galavisión networks are important additions to our offerings, as our Spanish-speaking customer base continues to grow, along with the demand for TV Everywhere,” said Chris Fenger, Chief Operating Officer for RCN. “What’s more, research from The Platform shows that more than 90 percent of pay TV subscribers have the ability to access premium content on their video-enabled, Internet-connected device of choice. That same study also states that the number of video-enabled devices connected to the Internet is expected to eclipse the global population by 2017. As the demand for this service continues to grow, we continue to expand our offerings to keep pace.”
“We are pleased to offer RCN customers the ability to enjoy the best Univision content whenever and wherever they want to watch it,” said Friday Abernethy, SVP of Content Distribution, Univision Communications Inc. “Our partnership speaks to RCN’s commitment to giving Hispanic customers new ways to access the content they love.”
