APSP Donates $25,000 to the Step Into Swim Campaign
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) January 07, 2016 -- The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) announced today a donation of $25,000 to The Step Into Swim™ Campaign, organized by the National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®), to create one million more swimmers through funds given directly to leading learn-to-swim organizations.
APSP has designated its contribution to support the Angels of America’s Fallen swim program that teaches children of those lost in the military or as first responders. Angels of America’s Fallen is a 501(c)(3) charity that was founded on the idea that, with an average age of seven years old at the time of loss, the children of our fallen have lost their parent at the most crucial developmental time in their life.
The Step into Swim grant will fund swim program participation for Angels of America’s Fallen children who have selected swimming as their preferred activity. The organization partners with local community swim programs with grants covering the cost of the program registration and the gear required, such as goggles and swim wear.
“We are proud to contribute to The Step Into Swim campaign as it reinforces APSP’s core value of promoting the safe and enjoyable use of our industry’s products,” said APSP President & CEO Rich Gottwald. “We look forward to partnering with NSPF to grow the number of swimmers throughout the world through this most important program, and especially touching the lives of children whose parents have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. APSP will work with NSPF to identify opportunities for APSP’s chapters and members to not only communicate our participation in the program, but to look for local engagement opportunities.”
“Recent studies show that formal swim lessons can reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning death by 88 percent. APSP shows great leadership for investing in swim programs. Because of their gift, more people will live healthier lives, fewer children will drown, and demand for pools and spas, and the products that support them, will increase,” said Thomas Lachocki, Ph.D., CEO of NSPF.
