Peter Nicholas started Nicholas Architects in 1989, which eventually became Nicholas Design Collaborative Ltd. He is a native of California, but decided to relocate to Chicago largely because of his interest in urban architecture. Nicholas won a 2015 ALA Award of Merit for the design of Case Study Houses 2111.
The inspiration for Case Study Houses 2111 was the popular Case Study House program that was initiated in Los Angeles in 1945. Today it remains one of America’s most significant contributions to architecture at mid-century and is indicative of the modern style for which Nicholas has become known.
