Listen Up Español Builds New School For Youth In Haiti

Employees from Leading Bilingual Call Center Traveled to Haiti to Facilitate Quality Education through Partnership with buildOn

Employees from leading bilingual contact center Listen Up Español, helped build a school in La Ferme, a community in the Sud region of Haiti, through a partnership they have with the international nonprofit, buildOn.

The United Nations’ Human Development Index ranks Haiti as the poorest country in the western hemisphere; 77% of the population lives below the poverty line of $1.25 USD per day. According to a UNICEF study almost half of all primary school-age children in Haiti do not attend school, and Haitian public schools have the capacity to serve only one quarter of the school-age population.

“The hands-on experience of building a school alongside members of the community means so much more than simply giving money. Working with buildOn helped make our company’s impact much stronger and gave employees an opportunity to see first-hand the effect they can have as a caring and powerful team,” said Tony Ricciardi, Co-Founder and President of Listen Up Español. “By providing another community with an improved education infrastructure, our company was able to exercise our core vision of ‘Delivering Awesomeness’ this holiday season.”

Employees interested in volunteering were required to submit a home-made video explaining why they wanted to go on the trip. A total of 11 individuals, including Ricciardi, his son and employees from Listen Up Español’s fundraising partner, Synapse Group, Inc., traveled to Haiti as volunteers. The group was in Haiti December 12 through December 19, 2015.

Listen Up Español has been actively working with buildOn for several years to help break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education. The company previously funded the construction of a separate school in Haiti and also sent employees to build a school in Nicaragua in 2012.
