Dover, DE (PRWEB) January 12, 2016
Winters can be cold in Delaware—but on Saturday, January 16th things will heat up as vocalist Denise King and world-renown trumpeter, Duane Eubanks take the stage to kick off the Schwartz Center for the Arts Music Series.
Known for captivating her audiences with sass and charm, Denise King sings pop and jazz standards with touches of the blues, soul, and even gospel, in a voice steeped in a sophisticated swing, sometimes soulful, satin style. Denise King has performed at top venues in Philadelphia, New York, Paris, Turkey, Brazil, Africa, Germany and Japan during the past 25 years. She started her musical career in her thirties and has proclaimed herself a torch-bearer; a keeper-of-the-flame. She holds the preservation and presentation of the traditional style of Jazz singing close to her heart with no gimmicks, no pyrotechnics—just an intense focus on the melody and the lyrical content.
Trumpeter Duane Eubanks, has performed everywhere from the Hollywood Bowl, to Birdland, to the Kennedy Center, in addition to touring throughout Europe and Japan. Eubanks is a member of two-time GRAMMY® award-winning Dave Holland Big Band, Mulgrew Miller’s band Wingspan, and Elvin Jones Jazz Machine on trumpet, and Abraham Burton, member of multi-GRAMMY® award-winning Mingus Big Band, Art Taylor’s band Taylor’s Wailers, and Louis Hayes’ Jazz Communicators on tenor saxophone. Rounding out the dynamic band is Denise’s long time, tight knit rhythm section with Aaron Graves on piano, Lee Smith on bass, and Khary Abdul-Shaheed on drums.
“Denise King sings pop and jazz standards with touches of the blues, soul and even gospel in a voice steeped in a sophisticated, swinging, sometimes soulful, satin style much like one of her idols, Sarah Vaughan,” says Donald True Van Deusen, All About Jazz.
“Duane Eubanks is a consummate instrumentalist, stylist and composer,” says Eric Harabadian, Jazz Inside. But don’t take their word for it.
