Thousands of light years from Earth, a battle looms. In his new book, “An Unfortunate War,” author Joe East depicts Earth’s discovery of a new planet, Haven, and the resulting clash between the two worlds as Earth’s interdependence on Haven grows.
“An Unfortunate War” depicts a futuristic world where Earth’s population has exploded and acceleration in technology has provided humans with the ability to explore the Galaxy. Upon the discovery of planet Haven, the people of Earth found its conditions suitable enough to establish a colony on the new planet.
As time goes on, Earth continues to deplete their resources and call on Haven for support. The relationship between Haven and Earth draws attention to themes such as immigration, Earth’s food supply and war as a solution to society’s problems.
“An Unfortunate War incorporates greed, isolation, love and a host of other emotions in its characters,” said East. “Overall, the book is about people who are enduring trying times.”
Author Joe East served in the U.S. Air Force as a communications intelligence specialist along with spending time in the U.S. Army National Guard. The knowledge gleaned from East’s military background provided inspiration for the various military plots found in “An Unfortunate War.”
“An Unfortunate War” incorporates science fiction, current news topics and a budding romance creating a book to fit anyone’s taste.

About the author
Joe East served in the U.S. Air Force as a communications intelligence specialist. As a civilian, he taught logistics, program management and contracting to soldiers. East earned his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and his master’s degree from Florida Institute of Technology. Joe resides in Madison, Alabama with his wife.
