Tony, Drama Desk and Olivier Award-winning Square 1 Theatrics to co-produce Waitress, premiering at Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York City on April 24, 2016.

The highly anticipated Broadway premiere is fresh off a sold-out run at the American Repertory Theater in Boston.

Waitress, based upon the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, features Broadway’s first all-female creative team and stars Tony-Award winner Jessie Mueller (Beautiful), choreography by Lorin Latarro (Curious Incident of the Dog…), direction by Tony-Award winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland), a book by Jessie Nelson and music and lyrics by five-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles.

Bareilles’s new album, What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress, debuted at No. 10 on Billboard 200 albums chart in November 2015. This is the first musical for the singer-songwriter.

Square 1, a Tulsa-based international production company founded by Jay Krottinger and Ryan Tanner in 2012, has also produced Memphis The Musical, which won two Olivier Awards for Best Sound Design and Best Theatre Choreographer, the Tony Award-winning revival of PIPPIN and John Grisham’s acclaimed stage-adaption of A Time to Kill. Square 1 is also co-producing with Del Shores its first film, A Very Sordid Wedding, with stars Leslie Jordan and Whoopi Goldberg.

Waitress will be Square 1’s second time to work with Paulus and producers Barry and Fran Weissler.

Broadway previews for Waitress begin March 25, 2016.
