Armstrong Teasdale Welcomes Wigginton, Chatman to Litigation Practice

Wigginton and the return of former Deputy Director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture Darryl M. Chatman. Both are St. Louis-based members of the firm’s Litigation practice group.
Stephen R. Wigginton
In his practice, Wigginton is focused on large commercial class action suits, complex litigation involving corporate malfeasance, white collar criminal defense, and internal investigations, and qui tam cases. He has experience representing municipalities and other governmental entities, as well as colleges and universities in a wide range of litigation and labor law matters. Wigginton also supports the firm’s healthcare clients, as well as technology, security and data privacy clients.
As United States attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Wigginton served a total of 38 counties, including roughly 1.25 million people, and oversaw law enforcement operations targeting violent crime, public corruption, fraud on government programs, health care fraud and crimes involving the exploitation of children.
Wigginton was in private law practice from 1992-2010, and also worked as a part-time felony prosecutor for the Madison County State’s Attorney's Office. Prior to that, he served as a prosecutor with the City of St. Louis' Circuit Attorney's Office. He began his career as in-house counsel with the May Department Stores Company.
Wigginton earned his J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law and B.S. from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He is admitted to practice law in Missouri, Illinois and before the Missouri Circuit Courts; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit; Illinois Supreme Court; Federal District Courts; and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
He is also a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
Darryl M. Chatman
An experienced attorney, Chatman is also an economist and scientist. In his practice, Chatman focuses on animal health, life sciences and agriculture law, regulatory compliance, commercial litigation, and employment litigation. He assists agriculture commodity groups, farmers, ranchers, alternative fuel industries and biotech start-up companies with a variety of legal needs.
Chatman most recently served as the deputy director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. While there, he took the lead on starting the Missouri Agricultural Foundation, which supports projects that promote sound agricultural practices, growth in agribusiness and agritourism, international agricultural exports, urban agriculture, food safety, farm safety practices, youth development and education. He also worked on the Beef Initiative, which focuses on growing and strengthening Missouri’s beef industry, and started a summer program for urban and suburban youth to learn more about production agriculture and the life sciences.
Prior to his time at the Missouri Department of Agriculture, Chatman was an attorney in Armstrong Teasdale’s Litigation practice group for nearly seven years. He earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law. Chatman received his M.S. in agriculture economics, his M.S. in animal science, and his B.S. in animal science all from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He also earned his Master of Public Administration degree from North Carolina State University. He is admitted to practice law in Missouri, Illinois and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Southern and Central Districts of Illinois; U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri; the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth District.
Chatman is a member of the St. Louis Agribusiness Club and the Mound City Bar Association. He is also a former student athlete and played football at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
