Asheville, North Carolina (PRWEB) January 14, 2016 -- FLS Energy Inc. announces that Steve Levitas has joined the FLS team as Vice President of Business Affairs and General Counsel. In his new capacity Steve will lead the company’s development of new business opportunities and oversee its legal, regulatory, and government affairs functions. “We believe that the solar industry is now uniquely positioned to become a major part of the U.S. energy portfolio,” says Dale Freudenberger, CEO of FLS Energy. “Bringing Steve onto our team will strengthen our ability to remain a leader in solar development and new energy job creation throughout the southeast and help us to expand as a national player in the market.”
Steve has been in private law practice for the past nineteen years and has concentrated his practice on renewable energy project development and environmental regulatory matters. Last year he was the recipient of The Charlotte Business Journal’s Energy Leaders Award and he has consistently been recognized as one of the leading environmental lawyers in North Carolina. Steve will remain a partner in the law firm of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP on a part-time basis and will continue to serve as co-leader of the firm’s Energy Team. “This is a great opportunity for Steve, and it comes as a result of his excellent track record of success on behalf of our clients in the energy industry,” said Susan Spaeth, Managing Partner of Kilpatrick Townsend. “We look forward to continuing to work with him as a partner and leader at the firm.”
Steve has served as the Deputy Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources ( Department of Environmental Quality) and founded and ran the North Carolina office of the Environmental Defense Fund, a leading national research and advocacy organization.
He currently serves on the boards of the Center for Energy Education and the Cradle to Cradle Product Innovation Institute. In the past he has chaired the Board of the Institute for the Environment at UNC-Chapel Hill, the Clean Water Fund of North Carolina, and the Opera Company of North Carolina (now North Carolina Opera), and has served on the boards of the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance, the Biofuels Center of North Carolina, and the Triangle Land Conservancy.
“This is an exciting time to be in the solar industry, “said Levitas. “FLS is an outstanding company. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with them over the past several years and look forward to taking a more active role as a member of their management team.”
