Michael McGuire to step down as Editor-in-Chief of Journal AWWA, search begins for the next Editor-in Chief
DENVER (PRWEB) January 13, 2016 -- Michael J. McGuire, PhD, PE, has announced that he will step down as Editor-in-Chief of Journal - American Water Works Association as of June 2016. McGuire will have served as EIC for just over two years at that time, including several months as interim editor-in-chief before he signed on to officially take the helm of AWWA’s flagship publication.
“This was a tremendous opportunity for me to understand the detailed workings of a premier water publication with over 100 years of history,” McGuire said. “It has given me the chance to work with outstanding staff, authors and editors.”
In his time as EiC, McGuire provided editorial vision for Journal AWWA and focused on strengthening the quality of the publication’s peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed content.
“My guiding principle throughout all of the work was to provide the best information that folks in the water business need to do their jobs,” McGuire said. “Journal AWWA sets the standard for excellence in water article publication. We don’t just publish detailed technical articles. We also publish articles about finance, asset management, conservation, business issues, sustainability and water resources.”
McGuire also implemented several innovations that improved the Journal’s processes and standing in the water industry:
• Overhauling the Journal Submission Guidelines to streamline the process and make it easier for authors,
• Combining the Peer Review Editorial Board and the Journal Editorial Advisory Board into a single Journal Editorial Board and
• Implementing open access for peer-reviewed articles on the Journal website.
Zsolt Silberer, BSc, MBA, AWWA director of publications, is leading the effort to find a new EiC whose mission will be “to carry forward the great work that Mike has done with the Journal and to bring innovation, industry and research expertise and knowledge of the issues for the water industry,” he said.
“The Journal editor should advance the mission of the Journal while recognizing that there is both a major demographic shift in usage habits and research mandates that require forethought and innovation from publishing,” Silberer added. “To increase the Journal’s standing, the editor will increase the readership and impact of the publication to address the issues and challenges of the water industry, reflect innovations and disseminate the advances for other researchers to build upon.”
