Being part of a national specialty pharmacy network enables us to aggregate our efforts with many other health systems and medical centers, ensuring consistent access to specialty drug distribution channels.
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) January 15, 2016
The Excelera network consists of point-of-care specialty pharmacies owned by health systems and academic medical centers. The network provides members nationally scaled infrastructure and support to help them develop best practices and gain access to limited-distribution drugs and biologics and restrictive payer agreements so members can provide continuity of care for their patients with complex and chronic conditions requiring specialty drugs and biologics. The network also serves as a national platform for collaboration to optimize outpatient specialty drug therapy for population health.
“Being part of a national specialty pharmacy network enables us to aggregate our efforts with many other health systems and medical centers, ensuring consistent access to specialty drug distribution channels,” said Joe E Ness, R.Ph., M.H.A., Vice President for Professional and Support Services at OHSU. “We are ready to fine-tune our specialty and infusion services to support the care of our patients from a regional and national market.”
“Assisting a large, trusted and high quality community resource refine their ambulatory pharmacy strategy is where Excelera can provide the most value,” said Jim Fox, Chief Executive Officer of the Excelera network. “The addition of OHSU reinforces our commitment to continued growth of our specialty network, and creates further value for leading drug manufacturers who are working with us.”
Specialty pharmaceuticals are expensive drugs that require special handing and administration and are often used to treat the most ill and clinically complex patients. The Excelera organization will work with OHSU to develop key specialty pharmacy and home infusion capabilities including training, operations, data aggregation, reporting for drug manufacturers and payers, revenue cycle management and pharmacy business office.
