Silver&Fit® Members Report High Satisfaction with Program’s Exercise and Healthy Aging Services
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) January 19, 2016 -- In a newly published survey from the Silver&Fit® program, a nationally recognized exercise and healthy aging benefit for Medicare beneficiaries and group retirees, members indicated they are highly satisfied, would recommend the program to others, and have improved their social support network through the program.
In a survey of randomly selected Silver&Fit members, conducted by an independent research firm, 98 percent of fitness facility respondents expressed overall satisfaction with the Silver&Fit program, and said they would recommend it. In addition, 98 percent reported they were satisfied with their Silver&Fit fitness facility. Silver&Fit members have access to: no-cost or low-cost memberships at one of more than 12,000 contracted fitness clubs or exercise centers, or to a home exercise program for those who prefer the privacy of working out at home.
Also significant, more than 76 percent of members said their participation in the Silver&Fit program has helped them make friends and improved their social network. Scientific evidence indicates that social and physical activity programs can improve emotional and physical well-being for older adults, as well as overall quality of life.
Nearly 87 percent of respondents said their satisfaction with their insurance company was positively impacted by their participation in the Silver&Fit program, while 57 percent said they would switch to another insurer if their insurance company no longer offered the program.
“Regular physical and social activity is vital to older adults,” said Mary Jane Osmick, MD, Vice President and Medical Director at American Specialty Health, which offers the Silver&Fit program. “By working with health plans to offer their members access to a wide range of fitness facilities at no cost or for a very low cost, we are encouraging them to get physically and socially engaged. Both our members and society at large reap the rewards of improved health.”
The Silver&Fit member survey was conducted using an Internet and mail mixed methodology from a sampling of 2,830 randomly selected Silver&Fit members. Survey invitations were sent between June 25, 2015, and July 30, 2015, and responses were accepted through August 27, 2015. To be eligible to participate, members had to be newly enrolled in the Silver&Fit program in 2015 with at least one facility visit from January 1, 2015, through May 31, 2015, for fitness facility members, or they had to be a home fitness member who received a Home Fitness Kit from January 1, 2015, through May 31, 2015.
