AeroFarms Leads Circular Economy Movement, Heads to Davos

AeroFarms is a finalist for the World Economic Forum (WEF) Ecolab Award for Circular Economy Enterprise. The Circulars recognize individuals and organizations that have made a substantive contribution to upholding the principles of a circular economy - wherein critical natural resources are not threatened. Awards will be presented in a ceremony at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos in January 2016.
AeroFarms was the first agriculture company to be selected to be part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Circular Economy 100, a global platform bringing together leading companies to accelerate the transition to a circular economy and to have a greater positive environmental impact.
Closed-loop Technology
AeroFarms technology is a closed loop system, recycling the water and nutrients with virtually zero waste. Their patented misting system provides the roots of leafy greens with targeted nutrients, water and oxygen. This aeroponic system uses 95% less water than field farming and 40% less than hydroponics to grow perfect produce faster and more efficiently with zero pesticides.
AeroFarms has also developed a patented, post-consumer recycled reusable cloth medium for seeding, germinating, growing, and harvesting. The only waste from this process is the plant stems and roots that AeroFarms has been able to develop additional applications for, in added-value food products and composting.

Chief Executive Officer David Rosenberg is an active member of the WEF and will be traveling to Davos, Switzerland for The Circulars Celebration at the World Economic Forum annual meeting. Within WEF he is honored as a Young Global Leader, where he Co-Chairs the Circular Economy Taskforce. At WEF he is also a Co-Chair for Technology and Innovation Group of Agriculture and was a Member of the Global Agenda Council on Water Security.
“In the United States, about 70% of our fresh water goes into farming. About 70% of water contamination comes from farming. If you want to address water issues, you have to look at farming.
