Megan Craig, a recent graduate of Southwestern Law School and now a Los Angeles bankruptcy lawyer, has won a Medal of Excellence from the American Bankruptcy Institute. The award was given to recognize her outstanding performance in bankruptcy coursework. She was nominated for the award by Vice Dean Anahid Gharakhanian and Adjunct Professor Edward Wolkowitz, who teaches bankruptcy at Southwestern.
Ms.Craig is an associate attorney at Bayer, Wishman & Leotta, handling bankruptcy cases and litigation. She began working there 8 years ago as a paralegal, staying on after beginning law school 4 years ago. While studying law at Southwestern, Craig remained at Bayer, Wishman & Leotta, working approximately 30 hours per week while maintaining a full course load in Southwestern's evening program.
She also had the unprecedented experience of serving twice as a legal extern in the Los Angeles bankruptcy court. Once for bankruptcy judge Vincent P. Zurzolo, and once for the court's Local Rules committee. While at Southwestern, she also received the Debra Bassett Scholarship Award and Dean's Merit Scholarships as well as an outside bankruptcy scholarship from Borowitz & Clark. Craig graduated from Southwestern in the top 20 percent of her class, and she recently received the Judge Barry Russell Federal Practice Award, presented by the Federal Bar Association.
