Today at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet unveiled its innovative Smoker Cabinet for backyard cooks to enjoy a new approach to traditional American barbecuing at home.

The stainless-steel, under-counter Smoker Cabinet uses gravity-feed charcoal technology with an insulated and sealed design for impressive efficiency. It’s built with the same focus on innovation, convenience and high-quality craftsmanship as the rest of the Kalamazoo outdoor kitchen collection.

“We set out to create a smoker for cooking authentic, American barbecue that is right at home in today’s outdoor kitchen designs,” said Russ Faulk, chief designer and head of product for Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet. “We have come up with a beautiful unit matching the sleek lines of our collection without giving up the primal experience of cooking with a live fire.”        

The insulated smoking chamber allows for efficient temperature control for food on three adjustable shelves. Along the side is a vertical, sealed column of charcoal, which burns from the bottom and rests on a fire grate. Wood chunks are placed below the fire grate and the falling embers cause them to smolder and smoke.

As the charcoal is consumed, gravity feeds fresh charcoal into the fire. Smoke and heat from the fire are then routed into the food chamber, where carefully engineered baffles ensure there are no hot spots.

The charcoal chute and exhaust chimney are also combined in a single countertop penetration.

The optional BBQ Guru computer-controlled fan system is highly recommended for the smoker. It reliably and precisely monitors the temperature in the pit, blowing air on the fire as needed to maintain the set temperature in the pit.

“It’s no surprise why the top barbecue circuit competitors swear by gravity-feed charcoal smokers,” said Russ Faulk. “Now you can enjoy that same cooking style in a smoker that is easy on the eyes.”

Hand built at the time of order in the Kalamazoo area of Michigan, the Smoker Cabinet will be available this spring in both built-in and freestanding versions. The built-in version stands on adjustable stainless steel leveling legs with toe kicks available. The freestanding version rests on heavy-duty casters, allowing users to roll it in and out of an outdoor kitchen for a more flexible space.

It will seamlessly blend with the rest of your Kalamazoo outdoor kitchen as it features the same door design, hardware and standard dimensions (36 inches wide by 30 inches deep).
