Local Team to Host First Barn Hunt Trial in Versailles
Versailles, KY (PRWEB) January 21, 2016 -- Sit Means Sit Dog Training and Lexington Barn Hunt Club have teamed up to host the first ever barn hunt trial in Versailles, KY. The event is sanctioned by the Barn Hunt Association, so competitors will be able to work towards recognized titles in addition to winning placement ribbons and awards. The trial is set to be held January 30th and 31st and will be starting at 8:00 am each day. Lexington Barn Hunt Club will be running the trial at Sit Means Sit Dog Training in one of the historic tobacco barns on the property. The show venue is located at 2365 Lexington Road in Versailles, Kentucky. The group's goal of hosting a trial in Versailles is to open the community to the sport of barn hunt and to allow dogs of all ages and breeds to compete.
Barn hunt is a dog sport in which dog and handler teams search for and identify rats hidden in a course of hay. The rats are kept safely in PVC tubes and not harmed during the event. On the course, there are also tubes with rat bedding in them so the dog must use their nose and indicate to the handler which tubes have a rat. There are five levels of competition, which allows the sport to be accessible to beginners while still challenging for experienced teams. Beginners can enter the Instinct and Novice levels and the highest level is Masters.
The trial will be held on January 30th and 31st and is accepting entries at this time. Exhibitors can find event details, or enter by mail or online by visiting: http://sitmeanssit.com/dog-training-mu/lexington-dog-training/barn-hunt-trial/. Exhibitors can also enter the day of the event by simply showing up at the trial site.
