Freightera selected by Climate Change - The New Economy (CCTNE) to write the lead statement on the green future of freight for the 2016 G7 Summit. Company's Link2Rail program part of plan to reduce CO2 emissions from freight transport in Canada and US.

Freightera has been selected by Climate Change - The New Economy (CCTNE), the leading publication on Climate Change at the G7 and COP Summits, to write the lead statement on the green future of freight for the 2016 G7 Summit in Japan.

"Ten percent of world greenhouse gas emissions are from freight transport, and in Canada freight is one of the largest sources at 19%, noted Eric Beckwitt, Founder and CEO of Freightera, "New emission reduction agreements from the Paris COP21 conference specifically omit freight and airlines. This omission, combined with ongoing growth of freight transport worldwide, will make freight transport a larger emission source every year in the absence of immediate emissions reductions."

Freightera's vision for a green future of freight involves immediately shifting all possible long-haul freight to rail (reducing CO2 emissions up to 66% for each load moved), filling empty trucks (30% of the freight trucks on the road are empty), and accelerating the transition to low and zero emission vehicles for "last mile" (local and regional) freight pickup and delivery.

Eric Beckwitt summarized the plan: "Visualize the future. Freight is picked up by renewable electric trucks, transferred to electric rail for long haul, with last mile delivery by renewable electrics again. The long haul fleet, serving areas with no rail, is 100% powered by zero emission hydrogen electric hybrids and renewable electrics. It’s not science fiction, it’s all entirely possible with technology we have right now. It is just a matter of vision, political will, policy and implementation."

Since 2008, CCTNE - ‘Climate Change the New Economy’ has promoted independent and informed discussion on issues related to climate change and sustainable development, through high quality publications aimed at political business leaders and opinion formers. CCTNE is the only publication on this crucial subject matter, present at the G7 Summits. Our purpose & value are two-fold: 1) to deliver effective thought-leadership through our proven advocacy platform 2) ensure as wide a reach as possible via our unique, extensive global distribution network.
