ECOS Paints Becomes First In Industry To Publish Material Health Overviews
Spartanburg, South Carolina (PRWEB) February 01, 2016 -- ECOS Paints has confirmed its leadership in building product transparency with the addition of Material Health Overviews (MHOs) to its existing Declare Labels and Health Product Declarations (HPDs).
“Architects, specifiers and owners are increasingly demanding sustainable building materials with full ingredient transparency, so that they can determine a construction project’s health impact” said Julian Crawford, CEO of ECOS Paints. “We were the first in the coating industry to fulfill this need by publishing Declare Labels, and HPDs, and we’re proud to once again be the first to produce MHOs.”
MHOs are a product of Sustainable Minds, the first cloud software provider and program operator to focus on simplified and understandable environmental reporting. They are designed to present health information in a standardized format, which allows users to easily find the information they need. Among other things, the reports include what the product is made of and details about any hazardous ingredients and the potential risks they may pose. The MHO format expands on the transparency information contained in Declare Labels and HPDs, by presenting data together with commentary and explanation so that it is more understandable for construction professionals.
“We applaud the leadership taken by ECOS Paints to help the world understand the importance of transparency and full disclosure in materials,” said Jason F. McLennan, Founder and Chair of the International Living Future Institute and CEO of McLennan Design. “Since transparency has diminished value if you can’t understand what you are looking at, ECOS Paints’ pioneering work, by providing the additional details in the MHOs, helps all of us shift the building industry in a more responsible, less toxic direction.”
Donovan Hardenbrook, Director of Manufacturer, Ecosystem and Information Technology Programs, at the Health Product Declaration® Collaborative added “MHOs provide the sustainability-minded product manufacturer an opportunity to communicate the health aspects of their building products, providing additional context and interpretation, based on technical substance and health hazard data reported in an HPD."
