Dental Implant System Brings Dentist, Dental Labs Together
Toronto Ontario and Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) February 01, 2016 -- A new one-piece dental implant system making its way toward commercialization will create new partnership opportunities between dentists and dental laboratories.
Christopher Ostrovski, President and CEO of Stemmed Implant Technology Inc., says the company's transformational placement system will allow dentists to insert implants more quickly and painlessly, with dental lab professionals taking a more engaged role in the procedure.
“Our screwless titanium stemmed implants simplify a process that has been awkward and time consuming, but to optimize the benefits for patients, the dentist and dental laboratory must work more closely than ever before,” says Ostrovski.
With the Stemmed Implant system, the dentist and the dental laboratory work closely together - with the dental laboratory playing an integral role in defining the implant placement site.
“The dentist takes a deep impression using a patented impression tray, and the laboratory then uses specialized guides to create a model that guides the placement of the implant into the optimum position for stability.”
There are 200,000 dentists in North America, but fewer than 15 percent do implants. Stemmed Implant's research suggests many dentists are hesitant to carry out the surgery because the current procedure requires up to 10 patient visits over a period of up to year.
With the Stemmed Implant system, featuring 3-D manufactured implants, the placement process and novel fixation arrangement minimize disruption to bone and tissue. The number of patient visits is reduced by 75 percent, allowing doctors to see more patients, and patients to enjoy the social and psychological benefits of a healthy smile more quickly.
“With a simplified and efficient system that will allow general practitioner dentist to perform implants, the North American market is worth one billion in sales annually,” says Ostrovski.
Stemmed Implant Technology Inc. is life sciences product development firm committed to bringing a new and unique dental implants system to market. With positive results from animal studies and stress tests carried out at Canadian universities, the company has begun the planning for clinical trials and has begun initial discussions with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Health Canada to launch the regulatory process.
