We will be recreating a very important piece of St. Petersburg’s history from 1914 when Mayor Abram C Phiel was the world’s first airline passenger.
Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) February 01, 2016
Tropic Ocean Airways, a Florida-based airline, is pleased to announce its inaugural flight from Fort Lauderdale to St. Petersburg, Florida, which will take place on 1 February 2016. Guests on Tropic Oceans Airways’ newest scheduled service will include travel writers and local concierge. The aircraft will be welcomed at St. Petersburg airport at 11:18 a.m. by a ceremonial water cannon salute from the St. Petersburg Fire Department. Guests will then take part in afternoon activities in St Petersburg, including a visit to the Dali Museum and a tour with on-property historian of The Vinoy Rennaissance Resort and Golf Club.
Later in the day, Tropic Ocean Airways’ first flight departing out of St. Petersburg to Fort Lauderdale will welcome on board the Mayor of St Petersburg and the President of The Chamber of Commerce as its first passengers. This flight will be particularly poignant to the city as St. Petersburg was the location of the world's first scheduled winged airline service in 1914. The St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Airline’s first flight took off on New Year’s Day, 1914, with the then Mayor of St. Petersburg also welcomed as the first passenger.
Upon arrival at Tropic Ocean Airways’ home base in Sheltair Fort Lauderdale, the Mayor of St. Petersburg and the President of The Chamber of Commerce will be given a guided tour of the Tropic facility, followed by a luxury seaplane tour of Fort Lauderdale and Miami before landing for lunch.
Tropic Ocean Airways’ founder Rob Ceravolo commented, “I am very excited to welcome this new service and I believe it will be a nostalgic day for the people of St. Petersburg. We will be recreating a very important piece of St. Petersburg’s history from 1914 when Mayor Abram C Phiel was the world’s first airline passenger.”
The new scheduled service between Fort Lauderdale and St Petersburg will be operated by Tropic Ocean Airways’ new Wheeled Cessna Caravan Ex aircraft, with executive style seating for up to 9 guests. The twice weekly service will operate on Mondays and Fridays with two flights per day.
