Email marketing is all about engaging with customers, which is why user reviews and social media presence are good starting points when thinking about choosing an email marketing app.

GetApp has released its latest quarterly ranking of the top 25 email marketing apps based in the cloud. The Q1 2016 ranking sees MailChimp continue its dominance by topping the list, while Constant Contact came in at number two, with Infusionsoft in third place only one point behind its nearest rival.

GetRank is designed to help small and mid-sized businesses better choose a cloud-based email marketing app for their company. It takes into account five different data points: integrations, user reviews, social media presence, mobile app availability, and security. Each data point is scored out of 20, with a maximum of 100 points up for grabs.

The integrations data point is based on the number of apps that each product integrates with, while user reviews are calculated based on the number and average rating of each review. The media presence score is taken from the number of Facebook fans and Twitter followers a vendor has, while the mobile app score is based on a vendor having both an iOS and Android app, as well as its rating in each respective app store. Finally, the security scores come from vendor answers to a survey based on the Cloud Security Alliance Self-Assessment Form.

Well-known email marketing app MailChimp had a strong showing, scoring a perfect 20 in user reviews, integrations, and media. GetResponse and AWeber had the most highly ranked mobile apps with a score of 17, while FreshMail, SendinBlue Email, and GloboMail were the stars of the security survey, racking up 15 out of 20 points each.

“Email marketing is all about engaging with customers, which is why user reviews and social media presence are good starting points when thinking about choosing an email marketing app. A software vendor being able to successfully engage with customers means that they’re more likely to provide the tools that will help their client achieve the same results. These tools include things like integrations, reporting, and analytics,” says Suzie Blaszkiewicz, project manager for GetRank.
