There’s a tremendous security risk in carrying all of this critical documentation all the time.

On Feb. 3, 2016, Kathleen Carroll, chair of the SIA Government Relations Committee, will testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on Transportation and Public Assets in a hearing, titled “Securing Our Skies: Oversight of Aviation Credentials.”

Ms. Carroll, Vice President, Government Affairs, HID Global Corp., will represent the Security Industry Association (SIA) and advocate for the security industry on matters of access control in U.S. airports. Ms. Carroll will share her expert views on how private industry can contribute to and support all stakeholders in securing U.S. airports.

One point Ms. Carroll plans to emphasize is her belief that the U.S. government should streamline credentialing and allow appropriately screened individuals to use one credential for access to multiple facilities. Being forced to carry multiple credentials produces security risks for some employees, she said.

“This multiple credentialing requires that employees that cross-credential carry a variety of documents with them all the time—passport, driver’s license, even social security cards and/or birth certificates. There’s a tremendous security risk in carrying all of this critical documentation all the time,” she said in her prepared testimony.

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building.

Ms. Carroll is available for interviews related to her testimony for the hearing. For a copy of the testimony or to arrange an interview, contact Mickey McCarter, SIA communications manager, at 301-804-4704 or mmccarter(at)securityindustry(dot)org.
